Adelaide Adelaide Hills Barossa Valley Langhorne Creek McLaren Vale Victor Harbor
The Clare Valley, situated about 2 hours north of Adelaide, is surrounded by many picturesque farmlands and vineyards. This area is one of the oldest wine regions in South Australia with the first vines being planted in the early 1840’s by the Jesuit Priest. There are 3 distinct areas in the Clare Valley – the Polish Hill River region to the east, the Central Clare Valley, and the Skillogalee Valley to the west.
Although predominately known for its Riesling and dry white wines, the Clare Valley also boasts some great red wines. Over recent years there have been introductions to Spanish wines such as Tempranillo and Italian wines such as Sangiovese. In 2010 Jim Barry Wines also became the first Australian vineyard to establish the Greek variety – Assyrtiko
